Celebrating Kandice Hart

2024 SW NAIDOC Education Award Recipient

We celebrate an extraordinary individual whose unwavering commitment has transformed lives, uplifted spirits, and paved the way for a brighter future. It is my honor to present the 2024 SW NAIDOC Education Award to Kandice Hart, a remarkable Noongar Wardandi woman whose impact resonates far beyond the walls of any classroom.

A Journey of Empowerment

Kandice’s journey began as the facilitator and mentor of the Sustainable Employment - Ready for Work Program in the South West. For over three and a half years, she has been the guiding force behind this transformative initiative, empowering unemployed individuals to upskill and find meaningful employment in the construction industry. Her dedication has touched the lives of 191 participants, many of whom belong to our local Noongar community.

Holistic Approach to Education

What sets Kandice apart is not just her expertise in education and upskilling but her unwavering commitment to holistic well-being. She understands that success extends beyond qualifications and certificates—it requires psychological, physical, and cultural safety. Kandice has created an environment where learners feel seen, heard, and valued. For those returning to the classroom after decades, she has shattered barriers and instilled confidence.

Generational Impact

The program’s impact reverberates through generations. Families have gained access to education, training, and sustainable employment, thanks to Kandice’s tireless efforts. Participants who once felt disengaged now stand as role models within our community. Their mental health has flourished, and hope has replaced despair.

Kandice’s practical support—whether addressing literacy challenges, ensuring equal access, or connecting individuals to vital services—has been nothing short of life-changing. She has championed traineeships and apprenticeships, nurturing 25 Aboriginal trainees on their path to trade qualifications. Licenses, nationally recognized tickets, and qualifications have become stepping stones toward lifelong success.

Transformative Support

As one participant eloquently put it, “The support has been important, especially for those who are older because normally older people wouldn’t want to go through TAFE.” Kandice’s encouragement to ask questions, to show up despite discomfort, and to shed shame has transformed lives. She has not only secured jobs but also fortified dreams.

A Beacon of Hope

So, let us celebrate Kandice Hart—a beacon of hope, a catalyst for change, and a guardian of opportunity. Her legacy will forever echo through the halls of education, reminding us that every learner deserves a champion like her.

Thank you, Kandice, for your unwavering dedication. May your impact continue to ripple outward, shaping a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
